Augmented Reality describes a layer of digital information superimposed upon a picture of the real world, often seen nowadays in sci-fi movies and on smart-phone apps. Reality is augmented, made more understandable and richer by adding a digital layer to it. This talk explores that concept as a possible metaphor for the role of the Bible in the life of Christians. Can the Bible act as an augmented reality layer for us as we see to live authentically biblical lives in a digital world?

Pete Phillips heads up the CODEC project at Durham University. slightly disappointingly, CODEC isn’t a Christian version
of MI6, neither is it trying to discover wormholes back to bible times, but it is about church and communication in the digital age.

Having served in a Methodist Circuit in the Midlands, Pete was New Testament Tutor at Cliff College for thirteen years, also working on his PhD on the Prologue of John’s Gospel from Sheffield University which he gained in 2004.
